Lullabies In Lockdown
2022
Exhibition Play Boxes
Interactive box filled with playful activities. Made from recycled plywood and laser engraved with a solid fill. The original artwork was by Matthew Hodson and was part of the Lullabies in Lockdown exhibition.
I was asked by Play Explore Art and Sunny Bank Mills to create a series of play boxes inspired by the exhibition. The artworks focussed on personal memories and experiences of Illustrators navigating birth and early parenthood during the Covid 19 Lockdowns.
It was quite a beautifully unguarded emotional exhibition, and young families were encouraged into the gallery to enjoy it on different levels. The Play Space created by Steph from Play Explore Art included a reading area, bespoke themed soft furnishings, interactive elements, and tunnels.
For this exhibition as well as the set of play boxes, I also created 3D bird sculptures that hung above the communal space, jesmonite blocks, screen printed canvas, and a set of items for purchase in the gallery shop.
